El trabajo analiza el ámbito de un hecho luctuoso y dramático que se produce en el año 1778, cuando un enorme incendio destruye el Teatro de Comedias del Hospital de Nuestra Señora de Gracia, en Zaragoza. El acontecimiento lo recoge el pintor aragonés Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, en 1808, en la obra conocida como Incendio de un hospital. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo e interpretativo realizado a partir de la obra de Goya y que nosotros relacionaremos con la historia de la enfermería. A través de lo representado, nuestro primer objetivo será evaluar la presencia de enfermería en el contexto, para después conectar el protagonismo de los personajes hospitalizados con el de los encargados de su cuidado en el hospital. El análisis iconográfico nos ha permitido identificar la obra como una composición dinámica en la que, aunque lo más llamativo sea el fuego, el elemento más importante es el ser humano. Llama la atención, en este sentido, no encontrar rastro de la enfermería en la representación, de donde podremos aventurar que la memoria colectiva no dotó de la suficiente identidad a la enfermería de los últimos años del s. XVIII (AU)

The paper analyzes the context of a dramatic and tragic event that occurs in the year 1778, when a huge fire destroyed the Comedy Theater Hospital in Nuestra Señora de Gracia Hospital, Zaragoza. The event describes the Aragonese painter Francisco Jose de Goya and Luciente in 1808, in the play known as a hospital fire'. This is a descriptive and interpretive study originating from the works of Goya and we related to the history of nursing. Through this representation, our first objective is to assess the presence of nursing in this context and then connect the role of the hospitalised people with their carers in the hospital. Iconographic analysis has enabled us to identify the work as a dynamic composition in which, although the most striking thing is the fire, the most important element is the human being. In this sense, it is surprising that there is no trace of the nursing profession in this portrayal, from which we deduct that the collective memory did not consider nursing to have enough identity in the late s. XVIII (AU)

[The human condition in treatment: a focus for nursing education]. / La condición humana en el cuidado. Un enfoque para la educación enfermera.

Throughout human history, knowledge and customs how to care for life have been a consubstantial part of human growth and have conformed to the culture transmitted by parents to children, their anthropological evolution and the meaning which folklore give it. This dimension of the phenomenon has been described by the most erudite as the art of caring. This character of daily familiarity at times confuses those who continue thinking that educating in caretaking is limited to the scope of convenience and the family, to intimate personal circles, far away from conforming to specific knowledge tied to the nursing profession. We can accept the evidence that all humans know how to care for ourselves and to care for our loved ones, but that does not mean we have to deny the scientific character of this activity.

La enfermera en el monumento madrileño (1908–1936) / The nurse in Madrid´s monuments (1908-1936)

La entrada de España en la Edad Contemporánea fechada en 1.808 se caracterizó por grandes cambios, conflictos sociopolíticos, económicos y culturales que se mantuvieron a lo largo de todo el siglo XIX alargándose en el tiempo hasta completar el primer tercio del siguiente, del siglo XX. En este periodo analizamos la influencia de la enfermera a través de su presencia en el monumento público o privado, como señal de reconocimiento social. El objetivo será examinar los monumentos femeninos de Madrid, tratando de descubrir aquellos que representan la imagen de la enfermera. Elegimos este marco cronológico por dos aspectos: por un lado, porque es en el siglo XIX donde arranca la enfermería como profesión y por otro lado, porque se considera en esta misma época, la aparición del monumento, como elemento figurativo de las ciudades. Como resultado de nuestra investigación, se describe el monumento a la Duquesa de la Victoria (datación, procedencia y estilo artístico), con quien se identificó el cuerpo de enfermeras de la Cruz Roja y en la que se destacó la labor llevada a cabo junto a "los soldados heridos y enfermos en la campaña de Marruecos". Realizando así el análisis iconográfico de un monumento relacionado con los cuidados de enfermería; identificación del tema iconográfico, contextualización histórica e interpretación iconológica. Puede servirnos como conclusión la idea de que pocas eran las posibilidades que las enfermeras tenían en aquellos años para poder sobresalir en el entramado social, pero que se supo aprovechar el momento haciéndose merecedoras del reconocimiento social que posteriormente daría paso a la estructura y desarrollo de una educación regulada y con reconocimiento universitario

The Contemporary Era saw its beginnings in Spain in 1808. This brought great changes and socio-political, economical and cultural conflicts. These lasted through the XIXth Century and did not see their end until the first third into the XXth Century. We will be analysing nursing influence in its social context. As well, we will striving to discover its presence in the public/private monuments as social recognition. The aim will be to look at Madrid's female images and select those representing the nursing profession. We chose this chronological frame due to the fact that, on the one hand, nursing as a profession started in the XIXth Century and, on the other one, it was in this same period that this type of monument started to appear in cities. In our research we came across the monument to the Duchess of ‘la Victoria’, its origin, date and artistic style. The Red Cross identified its nurses with it. It illustrated their work with the ‘injured soldiers in the Morocco’s campaign’ and achieved the iconographic analysis of a monument related to nursing care identifying its iconographic theme, historic context and iconological interpretation. Our conclusion is that nurses had little possibility of recognition in the social scheme at the time but, they excelled in their care and professionalism and through this they gained social acknowledgement. [What have I done to deserve this? Europe: so near and yet so far away]. / Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto? Europa, tan cerca y tan lejos.

In the field of education, specifically higher education, the topic which is our central theme today, everything still must be determined; even if the bases are already established for a process which will lead us to the creation of a European Role for Higher Education, the most significant features inside each cultural reality inside each context and inside every country should not be lost but, on the contrary, these features should be added so as to enhance a diverse and culturally enriched reality This is a task bearing great responsibility which each country should embrace from every discipline.

¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?. Europa tan cerca y tan lejos / What I have done to deserve this? Europe: so near and yet so far away

En el campo de la educación, de la Educación Superior en concreto, cuestión que hoy tratamos como tema central, todo está aún por hacer y aunque si bien ya están sentadas las bases de un proceso que nos ha de llevar a la creación de un Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, los aspectos más significativos de cada realidad cultural, en cada contexto y en cada país, no deberán perderse, sino que, por el contrario, deberán sumar al enriquecimiento de una realidad diversa y culturalmente enriquecedora. Es ésta una tarea de gran responsabilidad que debe ser comprendida desde cada país y desde cada disciplina (AU)

[The power of values. A question of professionalism]. / El poder de los valores. Una cuestión de profesionabilidad.

In order to include the term on which my thoughts shall turn, related to professionalism, I strive to find the words which project a specific sense to the concrete aspect of what I want to express integrating values inherently when I say profession. My point of reference is Stephen. Toulmin, an interesting English philosopher and disciple of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who in his last known publication develops his thoughts about rationality and coins the term reasonability, which he defines as the capacity to be sensitive to the thousands of ways the same situation can be presented and he points out its meaning with these words: "One hopes that the human values of reasonability are self-justified in rationality". Following this same line of thinking, I propose that the human values of professionalism be self-justified by the professionalism nurses have. Based on this reflection, I open for debate the concept of PROFESSIONALISM, hoping to arrive beyond the norms which can determine the future professional, since these shall always be limited by one's own personal experiences and by the review of our short bibliography on this issue.

El poder de los valores. Una cuestión de profesionabilidad / The power of values. A question of professionalism

Al incorporar el término sobre el que va a girar mi reflexión, en relación con la "profesionabilidad", estoy tratando de enriquecer un lenguaje que da un sentido particular al aspecto concreto de lo que quiero expresar integrando los valores de forma inherente, cuando nombramos la profesión. He tomado como referencia a Stephen Toulmin, un interesante filósofo inglés, discípulo de Ludwig Wittgenstein, que en la última publicación que le conocemos, desarrolla su pensamiento acerca de la racionalidad y acuña el concepto de "razonabilidad", que lo define como la capacidad de ser sensibles a las miles maneras que presenta una misma situación y señala su significado expresándolo en los términos siguientes: "Se espera que los valores humanos de la razonabilidad, se autojustifiquen en la racionalidad". Siguiendo entonces su mismo argumento propongo que los valores humanos de la profesionabilidad, se autojustifiquen en la profesionalidad de la enfermera. Desde esta reflexión, llevo al discurso el concepto de PROFESIONABILIDAD, tratando de llegar algo más allá de las pautas que pueda prescribir el futuro profesional, ya que éstas siempre van a estar limitadas a la propia experiencia particular y a la revisión de nuestra corta bibliografía en estas cuestiones (AU)

[In the threshold of European convergence]. / En el umbral de la convergencia Europea.

At the present time, Spanish universities are immersed in a process of profound change in their educational structures and Programs of Degree Study which affects each and every one of the university disciplines. Nursing Studies must adapt to the demands imposed by the European Union Superior Studies Professional Development, which means degrees shall be granted at three levels corresponding to Bachelors, Postgraduate and Doctorate degrees. The sum of accumulated efforts has opened the way to what we have today, a licentiate in Health Sciences project; a project not without its difficulties, but one which must be viewed as a further step in our most recent history towards a process of growth in our discipline and in the development of our profession. The degree of licentiate in Health Sciences should be seen as part of a strategy to attain convergence with the European norms, while bearing in mind that Spanish universities offer Europe a university model in which there already is a degree equivalent to Bachelors level or at least a first level university degree, the "Diplomado" in Nursing, as well as an equivalent postgraduate degree, the university second cycle degrees, which are independent of the other alternative degrees which may be offered in the future.

En el umbral de la convergencia europea / On the threshold of European convergence

La universidad española está inmersa en la actualidad en un proceso de profundo cambio de las estructuras docentes y de sus Planes de Estudio, que afecta a la totalidad de las disciplinas universitarias. Los Estudios de Enfermería han de adaptarse a las demandas del Espacio Europeo de Formación Superior, que significa una titulación de Grado, un Postgrado y el Doctorado. La suma de esfuerzos acumulados ha abierto el camino hacia lo que hoy tenemos, un proyecto de Licenciatura en Ciencias Sanitarias, no exento de dificultades, pero que habrá que entender como un eslabón más en nuestra reciente historia hacia un proceso de crecimiento de la disciplina y desarrollo de la profesión. La titulación de Licenciado en Ciencias Sanitarias, deberá ser considerada parte de la estrategia para alcanzar la convergencia europea, entendiendo que la universidad española ofrece a Europa un modelo universitario en el ya existe una titulación de equiparación con el Grado académico (Diplomado en Enfermería) y una titulación de equiparación de Postgrado (Segundos Ciclos universitarios), de forma independiente a que en su día sean otras las alternativas a ofrecer (AU)

Celebrando los 25 años de la incorporación de Enfermería a la universidad en España, la autora efectúa un repaso por el papel que ha jugado ROL al respecto, por los hitos que han jalonado los cambios de nuestro sistema de salud, la situación actual de la Licenciatura en Enfermería, y nuestra integración al sistema de estudios europeo. This is a magnificent article by one of the most qualified nursing authors in our country. In order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of Nursing in Spanish universities, this author reviews the role the magazine ROL has played in this field, the milestones which have brought about changes in our health system, the current situation of university degrees in Nursing, and the our integration into the European studies system. This author finishes with a hopeful and combative vision of the future which awaits us.

El año 2000 ha irrumpido con un debate controvertido y acelerado sobre la Licenciatura de Enfermería, proyecto que se está gestando desde principios de los años noventa, como la consecuencia de una serie de reivindicaciones y proyectos planteados anteriormente.
